PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS If you’re applying to business schools this year, you probably have strong work experience and a solid resume that gives your reader a clear understanding of what you’ve achieved. For these purposes, you may have to establish a clear sense of context as well, since Canada’s population is so small relative to the US. Sales or revenue figures that are impressive in Calgary may look like â€Å"small potatoes† in New York, so you really need to make sure that whoever is reviewing your essays and resume will be able to understand the relative scale of the environment in which you’re working. You may also need to come up with a couple of helpful analogies to help your readers get past unfamiliar company names. If you’re in retail, for example, remember that it will be much easier for a US-based reader to understand what Holt Renfrew is if you compare it to Nordstrom! And if you’re in banking, you may need to clarify how CIBC and Scotiabank fit into Canada’s financial landscape by comparing them to a couple of well-known US banks. The usual rules of good writing apply: focus on providing relevant, well-chosen details about what you’ve achieved and how you did it, rather than just giving a generic overview—these details should help your reader understand, quite literally, where you’re coming from. DIVERSITY I’m beginning to dislike the word â€Å"diversity† although it’s not the word’s fault that it is so desperately over-used in B-school applications. Anyway, while I discourage my clients from relying too much on the word itself, I always encourage them to address the concept—to show how they stand out, either culturally or personally, and of course to show that they are open-minded, sensitive and (hopefully!) well-informed when it comes to cultures other than their own. Canadian applicants actually tend to be pretty strong in the â€Å"cultural sensitivity† department, perhaps because over the past hundred years or so, multi-culturalism has been handled rather differently in Canada than in the US. In Canada, we’re more a â€Å"mosaic† than a â€Å"melting pot†Ã¢â‚¬â€immigrant groups tend to maintain a strong connection to their cultures of origin, while also participating in â€Å"mainstream† Canadian culture. The end goal—and result—is not assimilation, but something rather more inclusive and collaborative. If you’re like most Canadian school children, no matter what your ethnic background, you probably know something about Chinese New Year and Diwali as well as Chanukah and Christmas, and—especially if you’re from an urban area—you’ve almost certainly spent significant time interacting with classmates and friends from many different cultures. You also speak enough French to get yourself out of a tight spot in Paris or Montreal, and (again, depending on your own cultural background) you may even have a decent command of one or two other languages as well as English. Thus the Canadian context definitely heightens your potential contribution to an ethnically diverse (I said it!) MBA classroom and your comfort level in a â€Å"mosaic† environment. Unless you have extensive international experience, make the most of your Canadian multicultural exposure in your application essays! Once you’ve clarified these elements of your application, the rest is perhaps not easy, but at least fairly straightforward! Context established, you can move on to showcase the individual strengths and achievements that will—if all goes well—get you accepted. The actual number of blacks who lived below the poverty line was 33%. Throughout this time, however, Blacks had successes as well. In 1967, Carl Stokes was elected mayor of Cleveland. He was the first black mayor elected in a major city. Also, Colin Powell became the first black chief general in the army. The civil rights movement had concentrated in trying to promote equality in the south, but in the north, the problems were still evident. In 1965 50% of blacks lived in city ghettos, with poor housing and healthcare as well as an inadequate educational system. Towards the end of 1966, the slogan Black Power became popular and a lot of blacks abandoned Martin Luther Kings ideas and joined groups like the Black Panthers. Blacks are generally thought to be in a much better position in modern economy, but this isnt the case. The census bureau shows that unemployment had actually risen by 3% from 1963 to 1993. The bureau also shows that the poverty rate was still as high as 32. 7% in 1991 and that the number of discrimination complaints made by blacks from 1960 to 1990 had risen from 8,854 to 49,000. In conclusion, I believe that the civil rights movement wasnt very successful because Blacks still faced problems 30 years on and many blacks were killed during the civil rights movement, including Martin Luther King. This was because, even though the law changed, peoples attitudes did not; this was one of the reasons the civil rights movement wasnt very successful. I also think one of the factors was the timing. The civil rights laws had been put in place and many blacks wanted them to work straight away, this wasnt the case, the laws had to be given time to start making a difference. I do, however think than, at the time blacks must have felt relieved that anything was being done. As they had lived in an inferior position for so long, any change would have been welcomed.

I do have a policy that restricts the usage of phones in my setting s as children takes photos and put them on social networking sites. I have a policy that limits the children to how long they can play computer games otherwise they soon become addictive. (EYFS section 3 talks about safeguarding and welfare of the children). In conclusion, children learn through many resources as in my water and sand audit, children were able to use measuring scales to learn their numbers and changing colour ducks to learn their colours. It can be said from the above discussions that there are enormous advantages and disadvantages of introducing technology to children from an early age. It is my view, however, that the positives far outweigh the disadvantages if well harnessed. Technology underpins a lot of activities in society right from schooling to employment and children deserve a head start to progress through other stages in their lives. Early introduction to technology makes children confident in their everyday use of ICT; enhancing children’s creativity and aiding their learning as they move on to other key stages in their development and growth. Technology helps children in the physical development, for example there are games that help children’s physical development like the tennis wii games which children physically use their hands and body to play. Again, in terms of numeracy there are a lot of uses to which technology could be put. For example, children can learn about patterns through using technology in activities such as building blocks; patterns in music and other activities that provide a sound basis for understanding mathematics and also encourage them to learn about their environment. Talking about the impact of technology on children was interesting example talking about both negatives and positives sides. The difficult part was trying to make references to back what I have written. I learnt how children explore and make things through different resources and materials and asking question to encourage them to think of ideas and solutions example talking to them about cold and warn water.
